This is a very good question.

これはとても良い質問です。

Mis and dis are both common prefixes in English.

misとdisはどちらも英語で一般的な接頭辞です。

Prefixes are letters we add to the beginning of a word.

接頭辞とは、単語の先頭に追加する文字のことです。

Each prefix has a meaning.

それぞれの接頭辞には意味があります。

Adding a prefix to a word makes a new word with a new meaning.

接頭辞を単語に加えると、新しい意味を持つ新しい単語ができます。

Let's start with mis and misinformation.

まずはmisとmisinformationから始めましょう。

Mis means bad or wrong.

misは「悪い」または「間違っている」という意味です。

For example, add mis to adventure, and we get the new word misadventure.

例えば、adventureにmisを加えると、新しい単語misadventureになります。

A misadventure is an unlucky event, or a bad adventure or experience.

misadventureとは、不運な出来事、あるいは悪い冒険や経験を指します。

So misinformation means wrong or bad information.

つまり、misinformationは間違った情報や悪い情報を意味します。

Misinformation often comes from someone misunderstanding something.

misinformationは、誰かが何かを誤解することによって生じることが多いです。

We often use misinformation with the phrase a lot of.

misinformationはよく「a lot of(たくさんの)」というフレーズと一緒に使われます。

For example, there is a lot of misinformation on the internet.

例えば、インターネット上には多くのmisinformationがあります。

Next, let's look at disinformation.

次に、disinformationを見てみましょう。

Dis means not or none.

disは「ない」または「全くない」という意味です。

For example, if we add dis to agree, the new word disagree means to not agree.

例えば、agreeにdisを加えると、新しい単語disagreeとなり、「同意しない」という意味になります。

It might seem like disinformation just means not information.

disinformationは単に「情報がない」というように思えるかもしれません。

But its meaning is more complex than that.

しかし、その意味はそれよりも複雑です。

Disinformation means false information that is spread on purpose.

disinformationとは、意図的に広められる偽の情報です。

A person, group, or government can spread disinformation.

個人、集団、または政府は誤情報を拡散させることができる。

Their goal is to hide the truth or trick people.

その目的は真実を隠すか人々をだますことである。

We often use disinformation with the word campaign.

私たちはよくキャンペーンという言葉とともに誤情報を使用する。

For example, I hope the disinformation campaign does not work.

例えば、この誤情報キャンペーンが成功しないことを願っている。

Someone who spreads disinformation knows that the information is untrue.

誤情報を拡散する人は、その情報が偽りであることを知っている。

But when misinformation spreads, it is generally not done to deceive or trick people.

しかし、誤情報が拡散される場合、それは通常、人々を欺くために行われるわけではない。

We often use both misinformation and disinformation with the word spread.

私たちはよく誤情報と誤情報の両方を拡散という言葉とともに使用する。

Note that spread can be a verb or a noun.

拡散は動詞でも名詞でもあり得ることに注意してください。

For example, the internet spreads a lot of misinformation.

例えば、インターネットは多くの誤情報を拡散する。

The government should stop the spread of disinformation.

政府は誤情報の拡散を止めるべきである。

We hope this explanation has helped you, Lim.

この説明があなたの役に立ったことを願っています、リムさん。
