這一集講什麼
本段介紹一位讀者描述其寵物狗的背景,並說明將針對其文法進行檢討。
逐字稿:中英對照
A few weeks ago, we asked our readers and listeners to describe their pets.
幾週前,我們請讀者與聽眾描述他們的寵物。
We asked them to practice using multiple adjectives in a certain order.
我們請他們練習以特定順序使用多個形容詞。
One reader, Maria from Argentina, wrote to us about her dog, Cefarina.
一位來自阿根廷的讀者瑪麗亞寫信給我們,談論她的狗塞法里娜。
In this week's Everyday Grammar, we will review Maria's message describing her dog, and we will give some grammar suggestions.
在本週的日常語法中,我們將回顧瑪麗亞描述她狗狗的訊息,並提供一些語法建議。
I have five dogs, three cats and one rooster.
我有五隻狗、三隻貓和一隻公雞。
I love animals very much, but I am going to describe only one of them, my female dog called Ceferina.
我非常愛動物,但我只會描述其中一隻,我那隻名叫塞費里娜的母狗。
She is a senior big dog.
她是一隻年長的大型犬。
I meet her at the street.
我在街上遇見她。
展開其餘 74 句
She was very ill and sad.
當時她病得很重且很悲傷。
Now is a cute dog.
現在她是一隻可愛的狗。
Her colors is black and her eyes brown.
她的毛色是黑色,眼睛是棕色的。
She is a friendly dog.
她是一隻友善的狗。
She looks like brave, but she is lovely dog.
她看起來很勇敢,但她其實是一隻可愛的狗。
Let's start with the first two sentences.
讓我們從前兩句話開始。
I have five dogs, three cats, and one rooster.
我有五隻狗、三隻貓和一隻公雞。
I love animals very much, but I am going to describe only one of them.
我非常愛動物,但我只會描述其中一隻。
These two sentences are almost perfect.
這兩句話幾乎完美無缺。
Maria uses number adjectives to describe how many pets she has.
瑪麗亞使用數詞來描述她擁有多少寵物。
Maria has nine pets total.
瑪麗亞總共養了九隻寵物。
She then says that she will only choose one.
接著她說她只會選擇其中一隻。
We suggest adding my before animals, because Maria then refers to her animals as them in the second half of the sentence.
我們建議在「動物」前加上「我的」,因為瑪麗亞在句子的後半段用「它們」來指稱她的動物。
The choice my is a more specific choice.
使用「我的」這個選擇更為具體。
We also suggest adding a comma before but to separate the two clauses.
我們也建議在「但是」前加上逗號,以分隔兩個子句。
I love my animals very much, but I am going to describe only one of them.
我非常愛我的動物,但我只會描述其中一隻。
Let's move on to the next two sentences.
讓我們繼續看接下來的兩句話。
My female dog called Seforina.
我那隻名叫塞佛里娜的母狗。
She is a senior big dog.
她是一隻年長的大型犬。
In the first sentence, Maria describes the gender of the dog.
在第一句話中,瑪麗亞描述了這隻狗的性別。
We recommend adding "is" before "called."
我們建議在「called」之前加上「is」。
This is a passive sentence, so we must use a form of "be" plus the verb in the past participle form.
這是一個被動句,因此我們必須使用「be」動詞的形式加上動詞的過去分詞形式。
My female dog is called Seforina.
我那隻名叫塞佛里娜的母狗。
The next sentence has two adjectives, senior and big.
下一句話有兩個形容詞:senior 和 big。
This is where we should pay attention to the order of adjectives.
這裡是我們應該注意形容詞順序的地方。
When we use two or more adjectives from different categories, we must order them a certain way in the sentence.
當我們使用來自不同類別的兩個或更多形容詞時,必須按照特定的順序排列在句子中。
The order of adjective categories is as follows: quantity, opinion, size, age, shape or length, color, origin, material, and purpose.
形容詞類別的順序如下:數量、意見、大小、年齡、形狀或長度、顏色、來源、材質和用途。
We recommend changing the order of the adjectives senior and big, based on the order of adjectives rule.
根據形容詞規則,我們建議調整 senior 和 big 這兩個形容詞的順序。
Size adjectives come before age adjectives.
表示大小的形容詞應放在表示年齡的形容詞之前。
She is a big senior dog.
她是一隻大型的老犬。
Note that we do not need a comma between the adjectives because these are cumulative adjectives.
請注意,我們不需要在形容詞之間加逗號,因為這些是累積性形容詞。
In other words, they build on each other.
換句話說,它們彼此相互修飾。
They are from different adjective categories, so they cannot be separated by a comma.
它們屬於不同的形容詞類別,因此不能用逗號分隔。
Let's look at the next few sentences.
讓我們來看看接下來的幾句話。
I meet her at the street.
我在街上遇見她。
She was very ill and sad.
她當時病得很重且心情悲傷。
Now is a cute dog.
現在是一隻可愛的小狗。
First, instead of meet, you can use the verb find, to say that you first discovered or saw your dog.
首先,與其用「meet」,你可以改用動詞「find」,表示你最初發現或看到了你的狗。
You should use the past tense of find, because you are talking about a time in the past.
你應該使用 find 的過去式,因為你在談論過去某個時間發生的事。
Next, we suggest changing the preposition "at" to either the preposition "in" or "on."
接下來,我們建議將介系詞「at」改為「in」或「on」。
" In the street" means that you found her in the middle of the street.
「在街道中」表示你在街道中間找到了她。
" In" is used for talking about an enclosed space.
「in」用於描述封閉空間。
" On the street" means that you found her somewhere along the street.
「在街道上」表示你在街道沿線的某處找到了她。
" On" is used for general location.
「on」用於一般位置。
Maria did a great job separating the adjectives "ill" and "sad" with the conjunction "and."
瑪麗亞做得很好,她用連詞「and」將形容詞「ill」和「sad」分開。
These are opinion adjectives and carry equal importance in the sentence.
這些是表達觀點的形容詞,在句子中具有同等重要性。
This makes them coordinating adjectives, so we can use "and" or only a comma to separate them.
這使它們成為並列形容詞,因此我們可以只用「and」或僅用逗號來分隔它們。
We can also change their order and keep the same meaning.
我們也可以交換它們的順序,同時保持相同的意義。
In the next sentence, we need a subject.
在下一句話中,我們需要一個主詞。
We can use the pronoun she.
我們可以使用代名詞 she。
We also suggest adding a comma after now.
我們也建議在 now 之後加上逗號。
I found her on the street.
我在街上找到了她。
She was very ill and sad.
她當時病得很重且心情悲傷。
Now she is a cute dog.
現在她是一隻可愛的小狗。
And finally, we have the last three sentences.
最後,我們來看最後三句話。
Her colors is black and her eyes brown.
她的毛色是黑色,眼睛是棕色。
She is a friendly dog.
她是一隻友善的狗。
She looks like brave, but she is lovely dog.
她看起來很勇敢,但她其實是一隻可愛的狗。
In the first sentence, we have some subject verb agreement issues.
在第一句話中,我們有一些主詞與動詞一致性的問題。
Since Maria's dog is black, color can be singular.
由於瑪麗亞的狗是黑色的,顏色可以用單數形式。
We need the verb are in the second half of that sentence to go after eyes.
我們需要在該句後半部的 eyes 後面使用動詞 are。
Her color is black, and her eyes are brown.
她的毛色是黑色,眼睛是棕色。
Finally, in the last sentence, we suggest a different word for brave.
最後,在最後這句話中,我們建議將 brave 換成另一個詞。
We want another word that is the opposite of lovely.
我們想要另一個與 lovely 相反的詞。
We could say that Cefarina looks fierce, which is like brave and intense combined.
我們可以說 Cefarina 看起來很兇猛,這結合了勇敢與強烈的特質。
We can also remove like because we are not making a comparison, just a contrast.
我們也可以去掉 like,因為我們並非在做比較,而是在做對比。
And finally, we need to add the indefinite article a before dog.
最後,我們需要在 dog 前面加上不定冠詞 a。
She looks fierce, but she is a lovely dog.
她看起來很兇猛,但她其實是一隻可愛的狗。
Today we looked at Maria's message about her dog, Seferina.
今天我們看了瑪麗亞關於她的狗 Seferina 的訊息。
We talked about the order of adjectives, commas, and subject-verb agreement.
我們討論了形容詞的順序、逗號的使用,以及主詞與動詞的一致性。
We learned about coordinating and cumulative adjectives, and their connection to the order of adjectives.
我們學習了並列形容詞與累積形容詞,以及它們與形容詞順序之間的關聯。
Thank you, Maria, for telling us about Seferina.
謝謝瑪麗亞告訴我們關於 Seferina 的事。
We are happy she found such a loving home.
我們很高興她找到了這樣一個充滿愛的家。
I'm Faith Perlo, and I'm Anna Matteo.
我是費斯·佩爾洛,我是安娜·馬特奧。
